Description

Each year, the Chamber joins with the Business Council of Douglas County and the Northern Nevada Development Authority to present the Joint Breakfast meeting.  This year, the event will feature a presentation on the EPIC Report, a detailed look at the anticipated rapid growth in Northern Nevada triggered by the opening of the Tesla and Switch projects in the very near future. Our presenters are Bob Potts, the Research Director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Jeremy Smith, GIS Coordinator  at the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency since 2011.

Specializing in data collection and dissemination, economic impact analysis, statistical modeling and survey research, Mr. Potts is considered a leading expert in the business and economic environment for the state of Nevada. In his position, Mr. Potts oversees the collection, analysis and reporting of business, socioeconomic and performance information to aid the GOED in the development and diversification of Nevada’s growing economy.
Before joining  GOED, Mr. Potts served as the Assistant Director for the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While there, he assisted as the university representative and consultant to the business and government communities on local, state, national and international economic trends and business climate.
Over the past 18 years, Jeremy has used GIS in both academic and professional settings.  He holds a PhD in Geography of the University of Colorado Boulder and both an BS and MS in Geography from the University of Nevada Reno.  In the evenings, Jeremy teaches GIS classes at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Both Potts and Smith served on the Technical Committee that oversaw the development of the report. and Surprisingly, the anticipated impact on Douglas County and Carson City in the next five years is predicted to be less than many locals believe.

The presentation will take a look at the methodology used to develop the report and the details of the various growth scenarios. A full breakfast is included in the event fee. Plan to join us as this information is presented for the first time in Douglas County.
