Larry Schmidt will be Douglas County Historical Society's lecture speaker on October 10th.  His topic will be the Johnson Cutoff.  Larry is a Life Member of the Nevada Historical Society and has been a member of Trails West Inc. and Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA).  He retired in 2004 after a 40 year career with the USDA Forest Service as a hydrologist and physical scientist specializing in watershed management issues.  His interest in Nevada history developed in the 1970’s while researching flash-flood histories for the Humboldt and Toiyabe National Forests.  He currently participates, along with other volunteers in OCTA and the Trails West, INC. to locate and map the Johnson Cutoff in Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin.   He and his wife Phyllis currently live in Minden, NV and enjoy OCTA outings and traveling in the Western U.S.
The lecture begins at 7 pm at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Gardnerville, .  Admission is $3.00 and is free to members of the Historical Society.
